# Learning the Block Editor

Several years ago WordPress rolled out the Gutenberg Block Editor. It's a powerful, versatile tool designed to help create responsive posts and pages that will look good on any device. It is also very well documented.

Someone once told me that you can do a billion different things to an image in PhotoShop. In an environment that complex, there's no way to learn how to do **everything**. But you can learn how things work, and how to get more information about specific things that interest you. Consider taking this approach with the Block Editor: plan on learning the basics of how to create, customize, and organize your blocks.

If you're just getting started with WordPress, here are some tutorials that will help you get a handle on what you can do with the Block Editor.

PRO TIP: Despite the fact that the editor allows you to do it, for the most part you should avoid changing things like fonts and styles on individual pages/posts. Your site is governed by [its theme's](https://wiki.nad.cloud/docs/explaining-wordpress-themes-plugins/) styling; to keep a professional, consistent look, stick within those defaults.

Here are some plugins that provide additional blocks to extend the built-in ones:

- [Kadence Blocks](https://www.kadencewp.com/kadence-blocks/)
- [Spectra](https://wpspectra.com/blocks-and-extensions/) (preferred by ALPS themes)
- [Stackable](https://wpstackable.com/)

As always, you'll want to be aware of the potential that these plugins may create conflicts with your theme, or other plugins that you depend on.
